First Annual Black History Month Essay Contest at Westside Branch Library
In recognition of February as Black History Month, the Westside Branch Library is inviting Escambia County public and private school students grades 6-12 to participate in their first annual Black History Month Essay Contest. This year’s essay theme is, “What can I do to make a difference in my community?” Entries can be hand delivered or mailed from January 26 toFebruary 22, 2010 to the Westside Branch Library located at 1580 West Cervantes Street, Pensacola 32501. All entries must be received no later than 8pm on February 22d. Essays must be no more than 2 pages, handwritten in English and submitted on standard notebook paper only. Each essay submitted must be the work of one student and may not be the collective work of multiple students. Judging by Lulu Lewis and others will be based on effort and originality.
First, second, and third place winning prizes donated by the Friends of Westside Branch Library are a Touch Screen MP3/Video Player with built-in camera, a $50.00 Visa Debit Card, and a gift certificate for two to Rave Motion PicturesTheaters. Winners will be notified by phone and prizes will be given out at Westside Library’s 3d Annual Black History Celebration on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at noon.
